Nadia Birkenstock was born in Solingen in the north west of Germany.
She started playing the piano at five and joined various choirs and vocal ensembles during her teenage years.
Her first contact with the Celtic harp was a concert of the legendary Scottish harp duo \u201cSileas\u201d (Patsy Seddon and Mary McMaster).<\/p>\n

She started to play the Celtic Harp at 16 (first self taught, later on with a classically trained teacher) and attended masterclasses with Kim Robertson (USA), Bill Taylor (Scotland) and others.
Thanks to a one-year scholarship (ASSIST), she received her first vocal training in the USA (Westover School, Connecticut) and afterwards studied voice at the Music Conservatory of Duesseldorf in Germany.<\/p>\n

During her vocal studies she created her first solo performance program for Celtic harp and voice and is since touring internationally, playing concerts and festivals, and teaching workshops.<\/p>\n

Festival appearances include the %22Southeastern Harp Festival%22 (North Carolina\/USA), the %22Sentmenat International Harp Festival%22 (Barcelona\/Spanien), the \u201cRencontres Internationales de la Harpe Celtique\u201d at Dinan (France, Brittany), the %22Bardonnecchia International Harp Festival%22 (Turin\/Italy), the festival CELTICA (Italy),the festival %22Seduced by Harps%22 (Belgium),the %22Harp Friends Meeting Leerdam%22 (Netherlands), the \u201cSchlossfestspiele Potsdam Sanssouci\u201d (Berlin), the Venne Folk Festival and the Keltenfest Buchberg (Switzerland).
She also frequently plays for the Irish Embassies in Cologne, Munich and Frankfurt.<\/p>\n

Nadia’s repertoire features both original songs and compositions and traditional Celtic folk songs and harp tunes.
Requests for musical collaborations have lead to various expanded arrangements of her compositions, including for string quartet, organ and four part choir as well as electronic remixes.<\/p>\n

In 2001 her first solo album %22Emerald Isles%22<\/a> was released, followed by %22Wandering between the Worlds%22<\/a> (2003), %22Winter Tales%22<\/a> (LAIKA 2006), %22Les Berceuses de Coline\u201c<\/a> (an assignment for the French company %22Grandir Nature%22 in 2007) and her songwriting debut, %22Strange New Land%22<\/a> (LAIKA 2008).
In 2011 the CD %22The Enchanted Lake<\/a>\/Der verzauberte See%22<\/a> was released, featuring Dublin actor and musician Mick Fitzgerlad (ex %22Wild Geese%22). This CD was awarded the %22Global Music Award%22.

wurde in Solingen (Nordrhein-Westfalen, Deutschland) geboren.
Im Alter von 5 Jahren erhielt sie ihren ersten Klavierunterricht, wuchs mit viel klassischer Musik auf und sang in vielen verschiedenen Ch\u00f6ren und Ensembles.
Sie begann ihre Gesangsausbildung in den USA (Westover School, Connecticut), durch ein Stipendium der Organisation ASSIST erm\u00f6glicht, und studierte nach dem Abitur Gesang an der Musikhochschule D\u00fcsseldorf.<\/p>\n

Die keltische Harfe begegnete ihr erstmals in Form des schottischen Harfenduos \u201eSileas\u201c.
Sie erlernte das Spiel auf der Keltischen Harfe im Alter von 16 Jahren (zun\u00e4chst autodidaktisch, sp\u00e4ter mit klassischem Unterricht) und absolvierte Meisterkurse f\u00fcr Keltische Harfe u.a. bei Kim Robertson (USA) und Bill Taylor (Schottland).<\/p>\n

Bereits w\u00e4hrend des Studiums startete sie ihr Soloprogramm f\u00fcr keltische Harfe und Gesang, mit dem sie auf B\u00fchnen, Burgen und Festivals sowie in Folk-Clubs, Konzerts\u00e4len und Kirchen international unterwegs ist.<\/p>\n

Zum Repertoire der Harfenspielerin geh\u00f6ren sowohl eigene Songs und Kompositionen als auch traditionelle keltische Folk Songs und Tunes.
Durch Anfragen nach musikalischen Kooperationen sind auch erweiterte Fassungen ihrer Songs entstanden, darunter Arrangements mit Orgel, Streichquartett und vierstimmigem Chor sowie elektronische Remixes.<\/p>\n

Die Harfenistin ist au\u00dferdem regelm\u00e4\u00dfig gern gesehener Gast der Irischen Honorarkonsulate in Deutschland.<\/p>\n

Neben ihrer Konzertt\u00e4tigkeit ist sie auch eine gefragte Workshop-Dozentin (Schwerpunkte Song Arrangement, kreative \u00dcbetechniken, Komposition).<\/p>\n

Ihre ersten beiden CDs \u201eEmerald Isles\u201c (2001) und \u201eWandering between the Worlds\u201c (2003) ver\u00f6ffentlichte sie im Eigenverlag. 2006 erschien dann \u201eWinter Tales\u201c beim Label LAIKA, wodurch sie einem gr\u00f6sseren Publikum bekannt wurde.
Weitere CDs sind \u201eLes Berceuses de Coline\u201c (eine Auftragsproduktion f\u00fcr die franz\u00f6sische Firma \u201eGrandir Nature\u201c 2007) und ein Songwriting-Album \u201eStrange New Land\u201c (LAIKA 2008).
2011 erschien die Doppel-CD „The Enchanted Lakel“\/Der verzauberte See“mit dem Irischen Schauspieler und Musiker Mick Fitzgerald als Sprecher der englischen Version. Diese CD erhielt den „Global Music Award“.
Die CD „The Glow Within“ (LAIKA 2013) entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit dem walisischen Perkussionisten und Gongbauer Steve Hubback.
2019 erschien das Album „Whispering Woods“, eine Instrumental-CD mit \u00fcberwiegend Eigenkompositionen.
Seit 2020 erschienene Singles sind auf Nadia’s Spotify K\u00fcnstlerseite<\/a> sowie allen g\u00e4ngigen Download-Portalen vertreten.
Das Album „A Light So Bright“ (Adriana Records, 2024) wurde vom „Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik“<\/a> mit „Bestenliste 01\/2025“ (Kategorie SingerSongwirter) ausgezeichnet.<\/p>\n

Nadia Birkenstocks Kompositionen f\u00fcr Harfe werden weltweit von Profis und Liebhabern gespielt und unterrichtet.
Einen wesentlichen Beitrag zur Bekanntmachung dieser Kompositionen leistet dabei Nadias YouTube-Kanal.<\/a>
Das Video der Eigenkomposition „A Trip to the Islands“<\/a>, hat bereits \u00fcber 1,6 Mio Aufrufe erzielt.<\/p>\n
